Two very recent acquisitions...

Firstly, an ‘80’s Westone Clipper, courtesy of @Grangousier:

It’s very lovely, utterly ‘80’s-tastic and plays great. A nice nostalgic touch is the Route 66 dealer sticker, which was a shop I frequented a lot in the mid-‘80’s.

Secondly, a very battered ‘70’s Kustom Tuck’n’Roll KB150-1...sadly missing the Tuck’n’Roll sleeve:

A bit of a spruce-up meant that it looked marginally better...

There’s a lot of work to do cosmetically* as well as electronically, so it should keep me occupied for a while.

Just as an FYI, here’s what a minty version looks like:

*Along with sorting the metalwork, I’m either going to be importing a S/H vintage sleeve or fabricating one from scratch.

Had that amp been at the bottom of the sea?  Enjoy the restoration.

Forget that Westone went pointy headstock - but what a cool colour

Kustom - Another line that Baldwin purchased - And who can forget the covering - So distinctive - Offered a host of quirky colours

It was the former owner’s gigging amp for over 25 years. Originally, it had the T’n’R sleeve, but he removed it at some point in the ‘80’s for ease of transport (if you’ve ever owned one, you’ll know why!) - it’s also been in storage (in his garage) for a long time, which hasn’t helped!

I did not say that the giveaway was non-existent. Only that I had not been informed of it.

OTOH, H7 probably correctly guessed that most of that pile would be of limited interest to me.

Some of those Kustom amps were pretty good. They sounded better than they looked.

Love that Westone - a brand that I have a particular soft spot for. My first proper guitar was a 1984 Concord. I've since had a Thunder 2a as well.

    My trading feedback  - I'm a good egg  ;)

  • West one made some great guitars, but nearly all of the Floyd ones I’ve come across have damage where the Floyd post went into the body. I suspect mostly down to pilot error but why so many pilots?

Nah... they looked amazing. At least when they’re in good nick. They sound good, but not fantastic unless you specifically want that fuzzy 70s solid-state sound - which I do love, but not all the time.

Modern Kustom amps do sound really good though, even right down to the cheap practice amps - always better than you would expect for the size and price. And the valve Coupe series are really great - they even have a bit of Tuck’n’Roll on them too...

Agree 100% - one of my favourite-looking amps from the H7 formative years. I can remember seeing my first one (and being gobsmacked by it’s craziness) like it was yesterday...

The Kustom deserves a full restoration, though no idea how to sort out a new sleeve !

Imagine something sharp and witty here ......
