I've had the Epi for over a week now and so happy with the end result. I knew the P90s were going to be a bit hot for me, I guess I was looking for an electric parlour guitar! - the Gibby was a bit too big & precious for my needs, hence the focus on the small bodied Coupe. But I certainly wasn't dissappointed, - this gem just sits on your lap for hour on end (even without being plugged in - the acoustic side of it is great for keeping your fingers going!), great size, super neck profile. Plugged in, well - it was OK but, and in a band or driven situation I'm sure it would deliver, but for me it didnt have that articulate string definition, it was all too big and thick sounding. So I've gone for some budget underwound P90s (Artec 7+kohm, Alnico-Vs) - the difference is staggering- just what I wanted, I withdrew the underwound bridge pup tho because it was just a bit too thin, so I've got the underwound in the neck & the original in the bridge. I must admit they work well together (once you get the phases right!!) - I was pleased that the overwound & underwound would blend well for the middle position. I managed to get the epi p90 out of its chrome shell and it perfectly fitted in the black plastic Artec cover, - so I'm also well happy with the cosmetic change as well as the sound. It's a winner for me!

  • That coupe looks great, and especially so with the black covers.

Very glad it’s worked out - I’m super happy with the ES330 and considering a similar low-output pickup swap

Yeah the black certainly takes the ‘bling’ away!! ....hey, i’m so chuffed your happiness with the 330 also lives on, it was right for you - “meant to be!!” - it was only ‘ok’ for me! ...different strokes for different folks!! ...but the Coupe is perfectly just what i wanted - that lower o/p neck pick-up really put it where it was meant to be , in my mind. ...that was a reduction from around 12k to around 7,5k. I dont know what the R or L of the 330 has, I think they were a new design of noise cancelling p90s? ...maybe worth a try? ...but as i said, i didnt like the low o/p in the bridge, in this particular case, it was too weedy sounding, - but the choice of sweet on the neck, but with a gentle attack, and the fatness on the bridge, is good. Sounds bril in that Tonemaster also, nicely drives it from clean to gritty! Happy days for us both !!   :)
