Alternatively the Ibanez AG85 - this is a 14.5" body, and modestly priced .....

  • I think it will be mainly for jazzier things, maybe a little bit of fusion. But I would like to improve my jazz playing

For the price, the Eastman El Rey is one of the best small bodied Jazz guitars with a 14inch bout, but a Les Paul will sound fine for Jazz without spending too much money. https://www.eastmanguitars.com/er2

  • How about left field and try a Kiesel Holdsworth? 25 1/2 scale length but the body is 31” length .

If you go for the GB10 you can shrink your budget if you go for the EM model: https://www.gak.co.uk/en/ibanez-gb10em-antique-amber/932638

Aaaaand now I have gas for a jazzer again p

I have a Kasuga Barney Kassel copy.  Mine has been butchered (before I acquired it) but they are a really nice jazz box, but smaller than average.  Mine is 39cm across the lower bout and a fraction shy of 7cm thick.  They trade on eBay for around £300 I think, when you can find one.

I had looked at one of these, was wondering about the walnut fretboard. I’m probably just being old and traditional when I wonder about anything that isn’t maple, rosewood to ebony lol

Was also looking at the D’Angelico premier line the SS and the DC mini

The D'Angelico Excel SS is used by Fareed Haque - Jazz player / teacher (he's on Truefire) - it sounds great

The Casino Coupe is a pretty similar guitar. @erky32 has just bought a new one and may give you a steer on how it is when he gets it.

Just rec'd my Casino Coupe at lunchtime - I'm in love again!! .....ticks all my boxes, super managable body size, without losing that all important acoustic resonance. That's important to me because my semi (Casino/335/330) has always been a pick-up & noodle/singalong guitar without plugging into the amp. The neck is spot-on, wide-ish but not too thick, not as "slimline taper 60s" as my old Gibson LP classic was, but very comfy Epi pro/Midtown feel. Can't fault the guitar on finish, maybe polish the frets a tad when I restring. Just set up the truss rod (came with zero relief) & action no probs, except no tools included(?) .....for the money, or regardless, first impressions, I'm very pleased with the guitar..... floats my boat , as they say  . Many thanks to @stickyfiddle for assisting my progress thru guitar life . I've already ordered a piezo tunomatic bridge & mixer/buffer pot for an early mod because a while ago I tried a PRS SE Hollowbody II and I enjoyed the addition of a touch of piezo especially on the neck pup.

Slightly left-field suggestion but ever considered a Fret King Elise 'JE' (John Ethereidge)?
They are smaller sized, and seem to be a bargain used if you can find one

Great player but I struggle to enjoy his jazz tone on a tele.

  • I love Lage, but his sound on a tele is very different to his big box sound.

He could play a neon pink BC Rich and make it sound good, I don't have that gift :-)

I'm surprised no-one's suggested an Epiphone ES339. Bought one for my 9yr old who I'm teaching and its excellent. Thinline, 13in lower bout, chambered and about £400 in UK plus about £80 for the case. Quality's superb.

  • I was playing my les Paul earlier and wondering I could actually go bigger

No expert but I don't think 335/339 bodies are typically considered “jazz boxes”. That’s probably why. Good shout though.
