adding a baseplate to a Strat bridge pickup?

I was wondering about getting one, but listening to a few Youtube videos the difference between before and after seems very small, often not noticeable.

Does anyone think it's a worthwhile mod?

I'm just trying to beef up the bridge pickup a bit without actually replacing it

I've done it, and it is fairly subtle to be fair. It does help a little in terms of balancing the bridge pickup with the other two tonally, and as a user of treble pass caps on the volume pot I find a baseplate stops the bridge pickup becoming too brittle when you roll it down.

I like them, but they're not a miracle cure for anything.

  • I did it on an AVRI 59 reissue which had an unusable bridge pick-up. It certainly helped - but ultimately I just didn’t get on with the guitar and moved it on.

If you like everything else about the instrument I’d say go ahead. Mine was supplied by @OilCityPickups - really nicely made and very easy to fit.
