I think this about sums it up for me right now....

Take a £2500 guitar from the Guitar Man dealer on Gumtree

https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:vutYmN31qXUJ:https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instrument/1992-fender-custom-shop-danny-gatton-telecaster-tele-with-b-bender/1390963647+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

and turn it into a £4385 on on Reverb....

https://reverb.com/item/37269694-fender-custom-shop-danny-gatton-telecaster-1992

Fender Fever Ltd is a Turkish chap named Batuhan Alacan based in London it would seem.

I note also the distinct lack of business details on Reverb.....breaking all kinds of trading regs there chaps.

Nice guitar all the same!

Fender Fever bought a guitar from me once on eBay using one of his alts... was up (the day it was delivered to him) on the FF site for months for £900 more than I sold it to him. Eventually he sold it for around a £50 "profit" (followed it on Reverb out of morbid curiosity). I guess I priced it right in the first place!

I have several things on my ebay watchlist - reasonably common and not expensive - that are priced close to, and often greater than the new price. In many cases the items are clearly on the scruffy/neglected side of used, and often earlier versions where current version are seen to be marginally better in some way. Obviously these haven’t sold and have been there for months - but when somebody does eventually buy it, it contributes to the unrealistic price inflation. Maybe some people are happy to have mediocre instruments taking up space for years.

  • I assume that Alacan geezer Is better known as B Max Alacan on Facebook. He is in a few groups and basically jumps on everyone’s posts telling them it’s over priced or shit condition.

But, I wouldn’t say that’s indicative of the state of the used guitar market. This stuff has been going on for years and will continue but there are only a few of them at it.
Surely they aren’t selling anything unless to other countries where exchange rates and poor availability of certain guitars works in a U.K. sellers favour??

Fairly sure he is also Impatienceisavirtue on Ebay. He was also on here until being banned recently - can't recall his name now.

    Lovely chap*

*Note - I do have a bad habit of occasionally mixing up the phrases 'lovely chap' and 'utter tit end'.

He seems to have finally relaxed some of his absurd pricing but only in lieu of, in this case, a £225.00 delivery charge - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suhr-Modern-Satin-HSH-with-510-Tremolo-2019-Cherry-Satin/224249503611?hash=item34364fdf7b:g:8wsAAOSwGbFfrse4#shpCntId

His username on here was Xbaxxx. He recently auctioned off on eBay that white relic Tele with the sanded back of neck. No reference to the neck finish being sanded off in the description. He seems quite happy to miss out key details in his descriptions to make guitars sound better than they are. A shady character best avoided.

  • Surely £200 plus for postage is a typo ???

Whilst it isn’t my m.o., I guess people are free to try their luck at making a profit. What really hacks me off is false advertising - too many traders misrepresenting their goods.

I noticed some eBay sellers are saying ‘the photos are part of the description’ - which must be a lame way of navigating eBay misselling policy.

I was looking at an ‘excellent’ and ‘perfect’ US Strat once, which had a thin vertical white line across the body. Thought it was probably a reflection, but asked anyway - and was told it was a scratch. Absolutely fine, but whoever bought it wouldn’t have known unless they queried...

    No, it's not.

He's 'reduced' the asking price of some guitars, but increased the postage by an equal amount.

There's an American Elite Strat listed too with postage at £125.00 so it's a deliberate tactic.

  • He picked up a PRS from me on Saturday that's on eBay now for over a grand more (including postage).

I say good luck to him, except he tried to tell me the other guitar I was selling was overpriced

FF prices do in places seem a lot more realistic on Reverb than the person we all know as the "Mint/Under the Bed" specialist in Bognor Regis

How does he get away with super high delivery prices?
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

Is it priced below a certain threshold (£4000) to avoid a hike in fees? He still sells at £4500 that way.

Very glad I don’t have that kind of money to buy guitars tbh.

  • im not sure what the issue is on this thread.  simply don't buy it. if it doesn't feel or look right, it isn't.  however, if this seller is making false claims, or scamming, keep reporting him, on the other side of the coin if someone does not want to carry out due diligence and gets stung, then they only have themselves to blame. if you think seller is breaking rules, report them.  if the seller has bought a guitar and then sells it for profit, good luck to them

Guitar will be delivered by a golden chariot pulled by 6 white horses. Have you seen the price of oats these days?

Yap.  Not a new concept nor practice. Always leaves a bad taste in the mouth for genuine punters but this is how capitalism works.

Ahhhh, a new name to add to the eBay block list.

Guitar Man is on there also. Bought something off Reverb from him in the past. He's happy to take your money, not so happy to actually send the goods. In the end had to go through Reverb to get my money back. He's been banned on there (temporarily) several times.
