Seymour Effing Duncan pick up cover removal..

What's Hot
So I removed my Bare Knuckle Mule Cover with a Gas Soldering Iron..

The Seymour Duncan Solder on my Custom Custom won't melt..
So I went in with a Dremel,I have probably put fine bits of metal of the pick up magnet,
but I could think of no other way into the pickup..
However the Cover is still on..

I am in a bit of a sulk to be honest as I have parts on the way but can't afford to be pickups too..

I get the feeling Mr Duncan wants me to buy another Pickup..

Any Hints short of buying more specialised tools to get the cover off...

No, because there is no ferrous metal in solder.

BUT - you'll be OK since this is a modern pickup from a reputable manufacturer and it will be lead-free solder, but DO NOT under any circumstances do this with older or unknown solder - the fine airborne lead dust it creates is *extremely* toxic.

Simply use a large, fairly heavy but sharp, preferably curved, knife blade (the large blade on a Swiss Army knife is ideal) to cut down through the solder - steel cuts solder quite easily, although you will need quite a lot of pressure, so do it with the pickup resting on a soft duster or something.

If the cover still won't come off it's held on either with a piece of double-sided tape on top of the bobbins, or the wax potting. Either way, warming it with a hairdryer will make it easier to get off.

I use a Stanley knife with a sharp blade to cut through the solder with a rocking motion. Carefully, obviously :).
    +1 on the hairdryer
