Delaminating pickguard material?

I want to make a truss rod cover for my nascent Coronet but normal 3-ply pickguard material is too thick.

I think that the top 3 plies of 5-ply would do nicely, if there was any way of separating them?

Otherwise it's sand and/or mill the lower two plies off.

EDIT or does anyone know a supplier of thin stuff? I see it used for replica jack plates.

I could try laminating 3 sheets of 0.5mm ABS using acetone or MEK - any experience?

I don't think delaminating is feasible, Steve, but 3 ply sheets are pretty easy to get hold of.  Just one example:

Thanks Andy I've got plenty of pickguard material but but it's too thick for the truss rod cover.

I don't think you can delaminate but yes, you could certainly sand or dremel route a couple of layers off.  I've done a logo in the past by dremel routering the white off a w/b/w to expose the black underneath.  You'd probably want to uncover a larger area and then cut out the shape from the thinner blank.  You also need to keep the heat down .

I found some 1.5mm b/w/b material at R&F so should be good.

I'm having a friend CNC the cover as it is so small that I'd fear for my fingertips on the router table.

This "Truss Rod Cover Router Jig" looks like a cool idea though, maybe I should make one
