  • Make noise/buzz/hum.
    Cut off certain frequencies perhaps.

    Buzz or hum
Crackle or are microphonic when moved
    Excessively roll off top end
    Cut out or hum loudly
    Fail completely

Or any combination of the above...

If you're purposely seeking poor quality leads I can recommend the ones they bundle in a bag with an allen key and comes in the box with cheap guitars. They're the ones that make rustling noises, with moulded plastic jack plugs.

There will be a small peak at the resonant frequency of the pickup inductance and the cable capacitance, but it should be in the midrange I think... and not very pronounced. The frequencies above it are rolled off too, so it won’t sound like more top-end.

Poor quality straight, or poor quality curly? I'm sure the poor quality curly makes a difference, something to do with being poorly coiled up and actually longer when you poorly uncoil them. Or something.

It's quite alarming to me to see this rig rundown videos showing Billy Megabucks rig or whoever,  and I notice the patch cables and even the main cable from board to amp has some shitty bound to fail connectors with shit cable retention.

Same thing thing vocal mics, there will be a close up of a singer in front of 100K people at Glaso or whatever and I immediately notice the mic cable has some RS copy of a Switchcraft female XRL with grubscrew cable retention ......... proper spoils the show for me :)
