Are these stains the same?

What's Hot
Hi

Slowly working on the neck and so I had ordered a yellow and amber stains from crimson guitars .
Started staining with yellow and then amber , just to see which colour I like most .
Well , to my surprise they either the same colours ( mistake in stain bottling ) or just very similar .
Anyone can confirm with theirs if you have used them before ?
Ignore different shades on the neck , look at towel .
Amber on left ,yellow on right .

  • I’ve got both of these and to me the yellow is quite a bit brighter.

Best to do tests on wood, I imagine the difference will be more apparent

I've sanded the neck , so I'll see if any difference in appearance shows on wood .
Though I was hoping the yellow would be brighter , especially on paper towel .

So , I have tested both on sanded neck ,  and although they appear to be different colours  , the difference is rather subtle .

    Are you diluting them?

It's best to mix your own colour with water rather than apply straight from the bottle.

Nope , straight from the bottle . These are spirit ones so no water based .
Tbh I like that yellow on the neck as it looks more like vintage yellow , but they should have maybe indicated it on the package etc .

in fairness to Crimson, there seems to be more difference in your sample than there does on their examples

They do recommend dilution - white spirit or thinners  will do it

I guess I could thin it with white spirit . But the one I have are ready to use , unlike those stains shots which are concentrated .
At the moment I am happy with the finish anyway , and I was only wondering if they are right colours and not some sort of bottling error .

    Thanks chaps
