NorthWest Guitars Body Discolouration Issue

Happy New Year All,

Last year I built a partscaster using a NorthWest Guitars gold strat body and a variety of accumulated bits.

Having taken the guitar out of the hiscox case (after a few months) I’m shocked to see the gold colour seems to have become mottled/faded in patches on both the front and back of the body, and appears to be under the transparent lacquer.

The guitar has never in been in bright direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time or stored in high humidity

It’s difficult to capture in a photo, given the gloss finish  but see attached:

Has anybody come across this before and can advise why this may have happened and if it resolved?

Is the guitar body made from a wood that is naturally oily or waxy? e.g. Poplar.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Must be a reaction between the different finish layers. Difficult to diagnose without knowing what grain filler was used.
