Egg White pore filler - staining/colouring ?

So, Iv'e been doing quite a bit of reading up on surface preparation and finishing lately.
I have a few recent builds still to do the sealing and finishing on, and am wondering whether the egg white pore filler method could be adapted to include a stain to do a coloured/tinted pore filler, or a tinted wash before sanding and finishing ?
has anyone tried this ( successfully ) ?
