Pretty amazing new type of router

This is a new kind of router called the Shaper Origin.  It is a router with cnc pattern tracking and a live onboard video screen.

the videos require a lot of patience, but I think it is probably worth persevering, because the idea of a jig-less router looks pretty good to me.  I found it on one of those ‘tool advertising’ vids on YouTube (where the demo is only about two minutes but gets the idea across very well).  I think there are lots of guitar jobs this gizmo could be useful for.

Considering what a great product they have, they aren't much good at advertising.  You tend to lose the will to live after a couple of minutes of their vids.
Here's a screenshot to give you an idea - it's like a conventional plunge router but with a colour screen on the top.  You follow your pattern like a GPS roadmap.  Very clever.

It's not really that new - I saw a bunch of video demos of that well over a year ago. Or maybe they're only just bringing it to market...?

In any case, yeah - very cool.

I tried one of these at a working exhibition about 2 1/2 years ago and it’s nowhere near as easy as they make it out to be. I am absolutely rubbish at doing inlay work and I thought that would do the job for me but I did find it was not much better then free hand routing. Also it doesn’t work on  a curve surface, so you can’t rout Les Paul pickups etc.

It’s worth remembering at that price or less you could buy a fairly big CNC router with software.

Yes seen a few youtbers use them (they got them on free loan) for what they cost you would be better of with CNC equipment
