The opening lyrics of 'I've come undone, it's too late to fix it' don't exactly take you away from the Saville theme, do they....
"Anybody can play. The note is only 20%. The attitude of the motherf*cker who plays it is  80%" - Miles Davis

    Hmmm....
    Yep. Hmmmm indeed.

With regards the song, my immediate reaction is that it's not very good...but...I didn't really like the On Sunset songs when I first heard them but 'Village' has gone on to be a favourite on my playlist over the last year and one of my favourite Weller solo songs.

This new one might be a grower...we'll see

I'm a huge Weller fan, but that's not a great song by the man himself...

Not bad. I'm not mad on it though and I do wish Paul would sort his barnet out. And round glasses with long hair....no wonder there's so many Savile references being made.

Probably influenced by Noel Gallaghers recent stuff too, they are good mates.

Never a good sign when you spend the first minute unsure if it’s a joke or not.

He looks really crap. He’s sported some sharp looks over the years. Get it sorted. Get Mrs Weller some clippers.

The track is iffy too. It sounds like he’s taking the piss out of Blur.

It does seem like a parody of sorts, but this song’s been stuck in my head all day. even though I said I hate paul Waller, it’s still making me want to go back and give his stuff a proper listen.

The thing is with Paul Weller is he tries to keep moving forward into new directions, which can lead to some odd places with his writing, some seemingly odd chord progressions and song structures but I agree as posted above, it's growing on me. I've listened to this a few times now and it's unlike anything I hear on the radio at the moment and listening without watching the video makes me want to hear more. It's completely unlike his last album On Sunset which had a laid back California breezy vibe, this has an electro pop flavour but is still a guitar based track.

After some humming around the house I decided that it reminded me of a sped up Rose Garden of Funeral Sores by Bauhaus. Which probably isn’t all that accurate but once it’s in your head it’s stuck there.

I've never been a Weller fan, but you have to admire the guy for his varied output and general prolificness.

    The Jam 6 albums
    The Style council 5 albums
    Solo 15 albums

Having said that I'm not a fan, I do like quite a lot of Style Council stuff, and I appreciate the Jam a lot more now than I did at the time. Don't know his solo stuff.

Wild Wood (so good I named my firm after it)
    Stanley Road
    Heavy Soul

    Brilliant trio of albums.

Do you reckon "Cosmic Fringes" is a reference to his (lack of) hair cut?  =)
