SunBear vs Creamery Pickups... anyone tried them?

Hi Folks,

I'm looking to replace my Lollar Imperial PAFs with Firebirds that will drop into the same full size pickguard.

I see both Sunbear and Creamery do something like this... has anyone tried either of their firebirds, or have any history with these builders?

Not many reviews out there.

Jim

Can't comment specifically on the full-size Firebirds, but my brother-in-law has a few different Creamery pickups - Filtertons, Sonics, Baby '71 (humbucker-sized WRHB) - and they're all fantastic.

Jaime at the Creamery is a one-man operation, so wait times can be a factor, but it also means he's a fair chunk cheaper than some of the competition - his humbuckers are approaching half the price of Bare Knuckle for products of equal quality, both in terms of build and sound, and greater customisation; speak to him and he'll tweak existing pickup specs to your requirements.

Haven't tried Sunbear yet but I'm very curious to do so when I can.

I had some rewound Casino P90s from Creamery. They were absolutely brilliant.

Few years back, but a mate had a set of Creamery's in his firebird and they sounded excellent

Not on your list, but I've got full size Firebirds made by Oil City in my Explorer and I really like them.

I have some creamery mini humbuckers in my firebird and they sound amazing. Jamie will build them to pretty much any spec you want within reason.

I have a couple of Creamery pickup sets ('tron-a-likes and Sonics) and also a Sunbear single coil set (which is in the same guitar I had the Creamery Sonics in - so whilst different styles, as good a comparison as you could get). I could not fault either set - beautiful tones. Both builders produce superb products. I would suggest that Sunbear (Stuart) has the edge, but tonally there's less than a gnats fart of difference. Sunbear is the newer company, and Stuart is a delight to deal with.
However, all of the UK pickup winders I've bought from are dedicated, talented and accomodating of requests (Oil City, Alegree, Heavy Air, OX4, Catswhisker alongside Creamery and Sunbear).
