Finishing advice requested...

I have made a telecaster body (from limba) and my plan is to have a black stained top, natural wood sides and back with celluloid binding. The whole thing would be oil finished (crimson high build). The stain is crimson spirit based. So...

what order should I do things in? I haven’t cut the binding channel yet (I have a stew Mac router bit). Will the oil attack the celluloid?

Options seem to be...

stain the top then cut the binding channel, install the binding then oil the whole thing.

Or

stain and oil then install binding

OR

install binding, then stain and oil.

I have a load of rattlecan clear coat cans if the  oil is a non- starter. I also have a couple of cans of Steve’s nitro clear but it’s been in (unused) cans for a number of years....

Please can a local genius advise?

I would always bind before finish, but you do need to be carefull what glue you use as superglue can cause issues with staining the top.

With celluloid binding some weld-on plastic cement or melted binding goop will be much better
