That area is a nightmare to finish. I'll be interested to hear thoughts on this.

The past owner had the guitar refretted with slightly larger frets and the luthier used cyano / superglue when attaching the frets. Some glue has run on to the body at the neck join, It looks a lot worse on the picture than in real life. What abrasives would you use ? I know I would have to be very careful as not to damage the nitro finish. Any advice would be very welcome.

    Is the fret adhesive waterproof?

Near-boiling hot water might loosen the overspill.

DO NOT use acetone. It will take the finish with it.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

    I'm sure cyano is waterproof.

    I would use T-Cut.

I would scrape as close to the surface as possible, then buff it out.

    It's fiddly

    What tools would you use?

For a scraper I would be looking through the craft knifes for whichever blade fit the groove best..  if I couldn't find one I would grind down the pointy bit of a Stanley knife to make a scraper.  With a corner close to, but slightly below 90 degrees

I would tape above the glue on the fretboard edge  and I would tape most of the scraper blade to only show 3mm or so of blade

    Then carefully scrape
