A good thing?: one chassis for the pre amp, one for the power

Looking at the Binson Hifi 10 or 20 made in Italy in the 1960s, the combo includes 2 chassis (examples below). What would be the benefit? Or do they create other issues?

It's not one for the valves and one for the transformers, it's a separate power amp (at the bottom) and preamp (at the top). This keeps the weight at the bottom but allows easy access to the controls. It also might help with noise, since the transformers are a long way from the inputs - although most single-chassis amps can be made quiet, if designed properly.

The issue is that it increases build cost.

Thank you @ICBM , I wondered if it might come down to cost.
To balance my question, here's another famous Italian brand: Geloso, used for mono channel hifi amps or p.a. amps. Here the components are nice and tightly packed in a sandwich box type amp, albeit one from the 40s:

I've read them being used as
harmonica amps (along with the geloso mics). I've never heard one but a mate says they're a solid clean. Restored they do look the bees knees.
