Ah, it was WD I was looking at, not Allparts, they don't sell 5ply. WD are out of stock.

So they do, I've looked at so many websites I've lost track, but they're sold out too. Steve has kindly sorted me out!

Onto the dull bit for me now - finishing. It's had a can of sanding sealer, but not able to sand yet as it's clogging the paper. I'll give it a few days to dry more.

In the meantime another mockup with a temporary pickguard using some scrap (to test my template), and the plate drilled for the correct parts.

Very happy with how the finished neck joint came out, the grain match is really good so it's hard to spot!

Are you sure there's a joint there?

Love the look and a great pickup combination, will be following the remainder of the build. Inspiring work.

Thought i had the sanding sealer nice and flat but a coat of colour shows I definitely don't! So more sanding and sealing required I think.

Gave me a chance to practice binding scraping though and do a quick mockup with the finished pickguard, which I'm really happy with, and I love the olive drab with the binding, ebony board and block inlays.

Thanks all, will look a lot better when the green is opaque, but got to sand it all off first!

I've been having major problems with finishing. Grain filling obviously wasn't perfect in some spots leading to pinholes, followed by sanding back and grain filling (didn't work) and drop filling (partially worked).

Finally managed it get it to a good point. Scraped the binding, blacked the headstock and added the decal.

Now onto 3 cans of clear!

Not much to show this week. I left the colour coat a week to harden up some more, and this weekend have laid on 5 coats of clear - half way there!

My spraybooth (argos portable wardrobe) is working well - once I've sprayed on a coat I zip it up and it keeps the dust and bugs off while it dries!

This is probably more relevant for clears other than nitro, but if you are leaving it for a while its worth occasionally opening it up to let the off gassing solvent escape. Its possible too much in the air can slow the curing process.

Thanks for the nice comments, looking forward to getting this one finished.

@euan, I hadn't thought of that but it's a good point. I probably need to open it up once it's bug safe.

It's in the house at the moment, paused spraying because the weather has turned wet and the humidity is high. Gives it a good chance to off gas though.
