Making a trem block.

What's Hot
I’ve got a MIM strat and I’ve heard that replacement of the trem block can be a decent upgrade. I’m quite up for making one. Anyone got any tips?
Brass as a first attempt? Same dimensions as stock? Or go as big as I can fit? Smooth surface or rough cast?

If you expect the vibrato to operate, enlarging the block backwards or sideways is likely to cause it to foul against the routed cavity.

If the vibrato will be permanently blocked off, you might get away with increased dimensions.

My choice of material would be cold rolled steel. I would opt for a push-in arm rather than a threaded one. The angle of the arm hole is critical.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • Ok, I’ve got some cold rolled in stock. I’ll have a measure at the weekend :-)
