NGD - Suhr Aura

I ordered this last year and initially expected it in September / October but inevitably the date got pushed back. I got in contact with Suhr directly along the way just for updates and ended up in regular(ish) email communication with John Suhr.

John contacted me a couple of months back saying he wasn’t happy with how the wood top of the body’s was looking after the paint job. So he wanted to make it again as he is clearly a perfectionist. I was fine with this as I knew it would be worth the wait. At this point he gave me the option to change colour so I went from cherry burst, which was pre-ordered by the uk dealer, and changed to tea burst.

Round about the same time John got a new puppy and named him Thor, he also named my guitar Thor and painted this on the guitar body under one of the pickups. So I guess its 1 of 100 but also a ‘one off’ due to being named Thor. Cool story to tell over a beer as a minimum.

Anyway it finally arrived it this week and it sounds and looks amazing. I know this is a guitar that will divide opinion.

It's how I'd make one from a design point of view, they're really nice, congrats.

Bet it makes a normal LP feel clunky.

I must admit I didn't know Suhr made an LP type - or if I did, I'd forgotten.  Beautiful looking guitar.

I was curious about their approach to the neck joint - I thought it might even be a bolt-on since that's what they're known for.  In fact I see it looks very similar to a PRS Singlecut neck joint.

Yeah not gonna lie, looking at how the tuning pegs have moved for better string break, the contour on body...agree, I love my Les Paul but it's not to say a design is perfect!

Didn’t notice they started doing LP types.
Suhr get criticised for being heavy guitars. Is this one a weighty beast? Just asking out of interest. My Suhr is so well put together and is super light

I did my headstock long before his and my neck joint goes alot further too, I made vintage style stuff for years but my new stuff is In another league now, old stuff needs updating imo so a modern burst and custom has to be done, I hardly ever pick up my vintage style bursts now.

Just wow!! I'm well jealous, seriously considered one of these when they were announced, enjoy every minute of it mate, sod any controversy it's a beautiful guitar. What a story too, it's amazing how approachable John is and a nice fella to boot.
