"Awaiting Customs clearance" a 'fun' game IT'S HERE! Way Huge content

So I purchased a pedal not long ago.  It is from Italy, and it's still in customs here!

The last update was:

- Just in case anyone works out who the seller is, he has been brilliant!
- Yes I have done the paper work, and it was sent to Parcelforce customs people first class, recorded delivery about a week ago.
- Yes... Brexit....sigh.

Not entirely relevant…

on talk photography forum, buying gear from the Far East is popular due to Hong Kong has no sales tax, and as a result the same piece of equipment can be 25% cheaper and there are some sites which fudge the customs form so you save lots of money if it gets through unscathed.

Since the cheaper end of lenses are hundreds and a thing decent are £1000, and the £5k in a telephoto or a flagship body is pretty much cannot be avoided.  You can save thousands. 

Anyway, someone on Talk photography forum recent bought a lens (£2100 UK price) for £1500 on that site, or less as he got a discount on top.  The lens was caught and confiscated by HMRC and the latest thing he’s heard is that until the sender gets in touch, it’s going to be destroyed.  

I have never heard of that before, I thought they would put on UK price and make you pay the tax, not destroy it.

In this instance they wrote to me asking for evidence of the price and some forms.  I filled it all out, printed the Reverb receipt and mailed it to them.

I know I'm going to get stung.  But I'd rather me stung than lose the pedal!

You could be in for a long wait yet.  I returned something to Thomann at the beginning of the year.  UPS sat on it for about a month after it cleared customs.

I sent a parcel back to Thomann, tracking showed it in Germany
It turned up back at my house 7 weeks later, damaged!

Don't scare me.

This is the most important pedal I have ever purchased.  Rarer than rare, and it great condition.

I got a guitar from Belgium recently (via UPS, not my choice) - paid the duty immediately but sat in UPS/UK customs limbo for 3 or 4 days (can't remember exactly). Vendor told me it was out for delivery before the website did.

Is it particularly bad at the moment, or has it always been this slow? 

I never heard good things pre covid/brexit, and I can only imagine they haven't helped
