What's Hot
TravisthedogTravisthedog Frets: 1849
I want something that does thAt whole band of skulls/qotsa/jack white sound

Don't have big bucks to spend though! And I have owned the joyo one and the octave was too quiet

Any ideas?!

Most pronounced/fun octave is on the Tone Machine circuit, in my experience. Various clones out there, the Dano French Toast being cheapest and best. But Dano's MD is a vile, joyless homophobe so shoplift it.

    Or buy secondhand, I suppose.

Forgive me if this is patronising, but you know about the various octave fuzz tricks? Neck pickup, roll the tone off, back the volume of a touch, play above the ninth fret, that kind of thing?

  • The slash one from MXR ?

  • Visual sound do an octave fuzz that's excellent, has loads of octave and works brilliant in a band mix.

On it's own, a touch too much for my taste but you can dial the octave back a bit for that.

If you can find a second hand one the TC Electronics Octa Screamer is a great octave fuzz. Its one of my favourite pedals.

That octave's going the wrong way, though.

The MXR LA Machine is meant to be a very good Tone Machine clone. The HBE UFO is the best I've tried, though.

I was going to say the full tone one...but seems like you've already got onto the one on classifieds?

    Fulltone Octafuzz is great.

Andy Timmons was using one from GNI / NIG at one point. Never heard one in the flesh but sounded phenomenal in this video:

I'd go with a Foxx clone with an extra footswitch to activate the Octave.

  • Velvet vervet by monkeyfx is good... I picked one up on here to replace an octavia clone I had. Footswitch octave is a bonus. Fulltone octafuzz sounds great too but has a toggle switch for the octave.

Isn't the Joyo one basically a Fulltone Ultimate Octave... which is a clone of the Foxx Tone Machine?

Maybe something like the older Dunlop "Jimi Hendrix Systems" octave fuzz? Its a pretty brutal fuzz with a very noticeable octave that borders on a ring-mod and has boatloads of volume on tap. I don't think they're too expensive either.

  • I've had the Fulltone Ultimate Octave twice now with the aim to capture a bit of that Homme magic.

It's okay, but you have to set it in a very particular way - regardless of the guitar, and then it becomes a rather large one-trick pony. I want to try the Octafuzz next time around though, or the Dunlop Hendrix 70th Octavia.

    Without a doubt.
