WTB a 1978 Guitar?

Silly thoughts about a birth year guitar again. Been there, done it, sold it - but recent posts on here have got me thinking about it again even though I really don’t need another guitar.

Not too fussed about Fender or a Gibson as I reckon they’ve now passed what I’d reasonably pay. Although a low end The Paul or something might hit the spot.

Japanese guitars or maybe a Guild Electric.

Bit expensive, perhaps, but Reidys have a 1978 tele for sale at the moment.

Thanks for the heads up. That’s way over what I’d be prepared to pay. When I started this hunt a few years back they were £1500 - £1800 guitars. Should have maybe done it then eh!?

A 70s Fender is a lottery and I wouldn’t risk it...

As a YOB thing I think I’d be happier with a low value Jap guitar just to scratch the itch.

Resurrecting this irrational idea. I’d really like a Guild electric maybe an S model of some description. Anything out there? Other brands also considered.

I've had two 78 Fenders here recently, a Mustang bass and a one owner hard-tail Strat. Neither for sale unfortunately.

I'd recommend a Westbury, they started making them in 1978, Matsumoku plant.
a Custom or a cheaper Standard, fabulous things for not much £

Cheers @Sarge I’ve been down the Westbury route years ago. Remember the old big yellow free ad newspaper? Picked one up for about £50 and probably spent half as much again on Nitromorse to ‘try’ and get the finish off. In the end I moved it on with most of the finish intact 

Someone on here stripped one a few years ago and much better success though.

I have developed an interest in these of late. This one looks clean but the photos aren't very clear. It appears the bridge pickup has been changed and the rear pickup surround drilled for two hole mounting. The description says both surrounds are modified but doesn't mention the pickup. They say to call so I would ask those questions on the phone. I would want to pay less for one that's been modified like this
