This Sunday (23rd) I'll be doing my annual Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute set (near the anniversary of his death on 27th August) at the Earl of Beaconsfield blues jam from 8pm on Mill Road, Cambridge. I haven't decided which songs to do yet, hot favourites are Scuttle Buttin', Commit A Crime for the shuffle, and Ain't Gonna Give Up On Love for the slow blues. Mike_L has said he'll put in an appearance as well, as he has a couple of things to celebrate around that time...

Sunday night blues jams at the Earl of Beaconsfield are ideal for having a first go at jamming - why not come along to listen, & bring your guitar in case you feel inspired to join in? I'm in Histon, @Matthew_Taylor!

  • Does anyone know any good places to learn guitar in or around Cambridge (I am in Waterbeach so the closer, the better)? For some of last year I did lessons at school but it was a pain to bring my guitar on the bus and I am starting doing GCSEs (year 10) next year and I dont want to have to miss a lesson every week.

  • I apologise for not getting there yesterday. I gigged on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, on my way home on Sunday, I realised I couldn't face the drive to Cambridge, and then remembered that they close the A14 at night while they're digging it up, so decided not to travel.

I can testify that there were no jazz notes in Mike's Sweet Home Alabama solo. This is a good thing. Also, he played it in the key of D. Which is the correct key.

    Thanks @bigjon.

I've been meaning to come among to one of the jams, but haven't managed to yet. That's in part due to it having been a while since I played live - I'm a bit daunted by the idea of getting up on stage in a pub full of punters. So I'm hoping that the Knackered Jack session might be a good opportunity to get back into it. Either way, I hope to meet some of the cartel in person some time soon!

  • Yep have had this thread pinned for a while but oddly given my lack of social life most of the conventions at the Beccy seem to have coincided with me not being around!

Matt there's a jam in Histon on Sunday I believe at the Railway Vue. I've not been before but aim to this time. All ages welcome, my mate's son played there last time and he's younger than you so no worries.
@bigjon howdy neighbour, I'm just down from the Rose & Crown..
