Trapeze tailpiece on an SG but not that vibrola one

I have a cheap tat Epiphone SG Junior with a wraparound bridge. Because I like this aesthetic...

I was wondering if I could get any cheap tat tailpiece e.g.  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203640667639  and have it work straight off the bat. Are any angles, lengths, wraparound bridge limitations or anything else likely to stop it working?

The main issue is break angle over the bridge.   I recently fitted a trapeze to a flat LP shape.  I had to bend the bracket slightly to get it sitting flatter.  That worked okay but still left the break angle a little shallower than I like.  I decided to add a screw through the trapeze so I could control the break angle.  Its not bolted right down, I put a spring and ferrule underneath

Yes, you'll need a decent break angle to keep the wraparound on its posts, unless you're going to replace it with a tunomatic?

    Thanks. :)

If you do go for a sort trapeze like the one in your original pic then I doubt break angle would be an issue, but I think the long version  would suit an SG better

here is an example of an epiphone on reverb that highlights the issue perfectly

    Hmm, useful.

I wonder if one of these would work re break angle and vibe?

    (not in that colour mind)

I didn't realise there were Bigsby copies out there. Given the guitar cost me £60 I'm not going to go mad.

Just double check the distance from bridge to strap button.   On the epi I posted above the neck is set a bit further into the body than a proper SG, pushing the bridge back..... some of them over the years have and the neck set even deeper, often the bolt on neck models.theose ones won't fit a long tailpiece or bigsby

  • Maybe a shorter trapeze tailpiece and some sort of buzz stop mounted onto the tailpiece holes?
