Hello all - Following the recent arrival of a little one I'd like to encourage/force her to listen to some gentle finger picked acoustic guitar stuff -  preferably instrumental, preferably good so that I can enjoy it as well. Any recommendations anyone?

Rodrigo y Gabriela? OK, not always so gentle but top notch flamenco metal!

Pierre Bensusan. Try the Best Of which covers his whole varied career. Altiplanos and Intuite are great records too. Beautiful melodies and really rewarding music.

    John Renbourn

Pentangle- has vocals but of a soothing kind.

If you want to get those neural connections firing in a young and tender mind I'd also suggest guitar transcriptions of Bach, plus Joe Pass
    ;)

  • Gordon Giltrap
    John Williams
Kenny Burrell also did some acoustic stuff

and for some tasteful non-screaming/wailing electric stuff try
    Kenny Burrell
    Barney Kessel

for an interesting diversion try also
    Alan Stivell
Davy Spillane - especially his crossover LPs which the purists didn't like ;)

"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)

Message to Bears would be my suggestion, probably a little off the mark of what you're looking for:

Check out Erik Mongrain. Insanely talented!

Beautiful melodies, and the guy can play just a little bit.

I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin

But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to

    @Skarloey good calls!

Pierre Bensusan's 'Intuite' album is on another level to anything I've ever heard in that genre (whatever that is).

There are some lovely Bach collections for classical guitar out there. Start at the top: David Russell.

  • A little Tommy Emmanuel should fit the bill. I have the 'Only' album… he recorded nearly the whole album in one take!

I used to use them as bedtime music for the kiddies, there's an album of lullabyes called "Now the Day is Over" which is fantastic.
