1Q22 Challenge. TTony makes a guitar!

I've decided I'm in.

Time will  - as ever - be my main challenge, but it'll be a good incentive to get out to the workshop and *DO SOMETHING*.  

I'm going to make a guitar (because, obviously, I don't have enough of those already).  I'm going to build it around this ...





... which is a rather nice gold-fretted, solid Ebony neck, made by the genius who posts here under the disguise of @GSPBASSES ;

I'll make a guitar body of some shape, and some timber, depending on what I find in the workshop (I have plenty of choice) and what I feel like making.  That neck is TC spec, which is going to influence my choice of body design.

Well, well, well, a pair of Scrapyard Dogs, in black nickel with gold pole pieces. 

Handy!  I sense a colour scheme emerging.

When you put a bit of oil on the neck it goes very black.

PROGRESS!




Just ordered the few bits that I didn't find in   my workshop cupboard of things-that-will-come-in-handy-one-day.  Not that I'll need any of them until I'm rushing to finish the build about 3 days before the challenge ends!

Bit of progress today ...

1.  Found a piece of timber


45mm thick piece of Ash.  And I don't even need to joint it!  Had this plank for ages.


2.  Designed a design



It's a TeleHawk.


3.   Did some cutting.





I might get to do some more work on it next month.

That plank needed flattening - but it's too wide for my planer-thicknesser, so out comes the thicknesser/flattener jig instead.



That bit & jig have been so useful through the years!



A few passes with the router, front & back, and I've got a nice flat front & back.



Still pondering whether to do a small carve on the top, and/or whether to cavity it (from the back). 

I want to keep that ^^ as the top - don't want to hide that grain pattern under a cap, plus I'm hoping the nice open Ash grain is going to work well with the finish that I have in mind. 

I've got some offcut from the plank that I might try to slice into 4 pieces and then joint to make a "cap" for the back.  If that works out OK, then I could have a part-hollow body, routered out from the back.
