Blackbird Guitar Cabs - latest projects

I took advantage of the sun and got some photos of my latest commission, a dinky little 1x10.

The cab is made from birch ply veneered with chunky walnut veneer - unlike standard veneer it 'pops' just like solid timber when the oil goes on.

I've been playing my Princeton Reverb and my Tweed Tremolux through it this morning and it's sounding really nice, perfect for home playing, especially if you have hard of hearing neighbours!

This one is 10" deep and I didn't get any 'boxy' vibes at all.

These are actually both for sale - I haven't put them up on the website yet as it will no doubt involve getting lost down a Squarespace doomhole, but get in touch if you're interested or have any questions.

The larger combo cab will fit a Deluxe Reverb size chassis and can be either a 1x12 or a 2x10. It's currently set up as a 2x10 and sounds really nice.

The smaller cab is a 1x12 and also sounds great - it's 10" deep so there's plenty of breathing space for those juicy tones.

Here's some pics of the above cab's older brother in Walnut-veneered birch ply. This is my favourite build so far, I'm really happy with how this one has turned out. Internally it's Deluxe Reverb / Vibroverb width, but with a bit of extra depth for a bigger sound. I've made a 2x10 baffle but this cab will be just as happy as a 1x12.

It's up for sale on my website but give me a bit of time to play through it if you don't mind!

Thanks for that @ToneControl - I wasn't aware of them I must say. I think there's another Blackbird over in the States as well, I can't remember exactly what they make, I think pedals - you can see I take my research very seriously

If I receive a cease and desist warning my logo will still work as a Song Thrush so there's my next company name!

Happy April everyone. I've got another offer for you decent people of the Fretboard.......

As a way of encouraging experimentation to find the tone, volume and set up that suits you best, throughout April I'm offering a free extra baffle with every bespoke cab ordered, as well as making all cabs with a removable back panel free of charge (I'd usually charge an extra £20-£30).

I've found the last few months of playing around with different speakers and set ups really informative and really fun and it's a great way of getting to know your amp as well as finding the set up that suits your playing style.

So if you're ordering a medium sized cab you can specify a 1x12 as well as a 2x10 baffle so that you can really get a feel for how your amp behaves in both configurations. With the removable back panel you can then also take the time to get to know the difference between open and closed back cabs. So you've suddenly got 4 different cab set ups to play with!

For a smaller cab you might want to switch between a 1x12 and a 1x10.

For a larger cab maybe swapping out your standard 2x12 for 1x12 + 1x10 might add some focus to the sound.
