The notching technique is to keep your old strings on, tune to pitch and position the strings on the saddles.
Then tap the string over the saddle with a small hammer (you can put a block of wood between hammer and string) so that the string indents the saddle.
Enlarge the small intent slightly using a triangular file and nut files to give a nice shallow groove that fits the string.
There's a Dan Erlewine video on the Stewmac website.
And i guess direct replacements are nickel?
Any good trying nylon or titanium? bearing in mind im not unhappy with the originals
Reason for changing the saddles was the grooves were pretty deep in the old, and the high e was just hitting the back of the bridge (tailpiece is decked)
I thought with less groove in the saddle i could tweak the bridge down a smidge clearing the string, turns out saddle size in height is a thing, grrrr
If you don't want the strings touching the body of the bridge then you just need to raise the tailpiece a touch.
Anyhow i think with the correct height saddles i can keep the tailbridge decked, the e is just barely touching the bridge.
Allparts it is
The size i need are 8mm tall,
Back to the drawing board,
Very much appreciate your help with this
