GarageBand and iPhones

I’m looking into using GarageBand on a iPhone 11  as a means for being able to do basic recordings/amp simulations while away from home and wondering of it’s possible to plug a mic or guitar into the phone?

Does anybody have any experience of doing this?

You will need a suitable interface to connect a guitar or mic, but yeah it can be done.

You will need an Irig HD or similar lighting port interface, then yeah it's great.  Don't get the old version as your phone doesn't have a headphone & mic combo socket .

The JamUp Ap  is also very good. It comes with amps, pedal, 8 track recorder, drum machine etc.

Yes, it works very well. You can do most things you need to do to put a really good track together.

Also, given the convenience it’s great for quickly getting ideas down so you don’t forget things!

  • Yep. Any USB audio class compliant interface will work.  You will need to either get one that has s separate power supply or get the apple adaptor that allows and apple charger as well as USB

True plug and play… it just works.
