Generally/personally:
- unbent vibrato moves between pitch and sharp
- bent vibrato moves between pitch and flat
- trem-assisted vibrato goes sharp and flat (except for the losers with decked trems )

 Hadn’t really thought about that before!

I've only recently tuned back into Vai...more what he says than his music, tbh...although I am looking forward to the new album

Another great bit of advice I was given was to drop down a string gauge, this helps you really hone technique without resistance from the strings. 

Some people love to say they ‘fight’ against their guitar, that’s not for me. Machismo eh
