Saw Lesser Key in Islington last night. Fantastic. Took some sneaky pics of their pedals.

Pedalboard of Paul D'Amour:

He was plugged into an Ashdown bass head with an Ashdown 8x10, and it sounded really really fat.

Their guitarist, Brett Fanger, really surprised me with his board:

He was using an Orange Thunderverb 200. PodHD seemed to be just effects, and he wasn't doing any sort of midi switching from what I could tell. I think he had individual presets for each song.

Interesting layout style, I have mine the other way around usually.

I can't tell if you're making a funny or not. Obviously I wasn't stood on the stage when I took the pics!

They're fantastic. Not sure about feersum ennjin tbh!

Just checked out intercession. Sounds pretty good, can def hear a bit of early tool in the bass lines. The vocals reminded me abut of the first filter record too which is no bad thing. Will listen more later

Lol. It was a joke, but partly posted because I'm an idiot. I rotated my iPad to read the pedal settings more easily but since orientation lock wasn't on it rotated itself and the pics were still upside down. Guitarfailbay.

I have to say, I wouldn't have guessed he was using a PodHD for effects unless I looked. It wasn't like there was anything wrong with his tones, they fit perfectly into the mix, and his delays sounded as good as any other you'd hear in a live mix.

I've seen a surprising number of bands using pods live.

Can't remember them all but some ones that surprised me were soulfly, Katatonia (who were also runnign straight to PA, no cabs on stage), Blue Oyster Cult and Fear Factory (although they sound like balls live these days ayway).

Does he have a tech that scampers on and fixes the label every time he stomps it...otherwise you know it would really bug me the label being wrong so much of the time.

  • If the label is just some stuck down electrical tape it'll be fine.  I mark all my gear with tape all the time, it stays on pretty well if it is on a flat surface.

Haha that's the ultimate diva request. "I want a roadie specifically to change my pedal stickers between on and off every time i stomp, just in case i forget, and because i cant tell the difference in sound cos the sound guy secretly DI-ed me to PA"

I guess I'm lucky we don't have face palms anymore. Totally missed the joke first time! :))
