They were certainly good at what they did. Not sure if their drug problems were due to having to keep it up for the benefit of others or because they'd prefer to play something else though.

When I was around 10, the whole punk/new wave thing happened and I realised the Carpenters were somewhat cheesy and less-exciting. I always kind-of liked them, but lumped them with Eagles, Bread, Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac, Bar Out of Hell and Celine Dion.
