Decided to mod my 'bird. Out go the SD 'buckers and in go the DeArmond 2000's I've had sat around for ages. I'm throwing this open to you lot for ideas/suggestions/warnings etc.  New guard? Mod the existing one? I'm keeping the one vol/one tone but other than that I'm open to ideas.

Rock yourselves out.

Oh my Thats fabulous, it really needs the original scratchplate, I dont suppose you could mod it to mount the pickups from underneath?

Yes, that's how I'd have to do it, I'd be better with a new guard though.

Thanks.  Really hoping they give up the goods in a solid body.

Personally I’d go for a new scratch plate so that the original is unblemished if you, or a future owner, wants to reverse the pickup change.

Just had a quote for one from Tiny Tone who seem good but I know nothing about them. Anyone here used them or care to recommend someone else?

How do gretsch features always work so well on a Firebird?

It wasn't planned but it does seem to work, aesthetically at least.

Gig Ink, Tim makes acrylic scratchplates in either clear with a coloured backing of choice, or 3mm black. The clear one with a backing are thinner than the solid black. You scan your existing plate, email it to him, he will do any  mods you request and send back a PDF for you to print and cut out to try for fit, then when happy, he will cut it from acrylic…I have a few…
