Roland Janes and 'Memphis' Strat wiring

OK, not the best pic but it's basically the Sun Records house band with one of my top ten All time favourite players, Mr Roland Janes who has just inspired an Easter Monday rewire of my Strat. Anybody else a fan? Anyone use Memphis wiring in their Strat?

What is Memphis wiring (sorry if that is a stupid question, I’ve not heard it used as a term before)?

I will be trying that, very interesting idea. Thanks @Caffeine_Vampire.

Would be very interested to hear some experienced opinions of it.

  • @Teyeplayer You're welcome. What interests me are the variations I've seen with 500k pots which I've yet to try.

Could it be too bright though with 500k, what about 300k as a middle ground?

I have some 375k Alpha pots I haven't used yet. There's one in my 52 Hotrod Tele so I might try that this week.

I think of that circuit as the Brent Mason 3PU Telecaster wiring.

No, because with two 500K pots permanently in parallel, that’s the same as a single 250K.

I’m working on one of those just now. It’s a faff and a nuisance in my opinion. A pull-switch to engage the middle pickup, or a 5-way Strat switch and a pull to engage the bridge would be more useful to me.

So would 500K be advised to prevent it getting muddy @icbm?

Ideally yes, or it’s effectively the same as a 125K pot with standard wiring.

Thanks @icbm, my very limited knowledge really wouldn’t have realised that from the diagram above. When I’ve messed with schematics it’s been a bit like join the dots.
Will have to order some 500k pots. :+1:
