An elegant way to display CDs?

What's Hot

Maybe it’s the plastic jewel cases. Maybe the horror of 80s mdf display furniture or metal racks.
Has anyone seen an elegant way to display or access a cd collection?
I tried a DJ cd case when I was on the move. Now that I’m stable with furniture, it would be nice to display my growing cd collection aside my large lp collection. Any suggestions?

Do the towers have slots for each cd lying horizontal?

I built some shelves.  Most shop-bought shelving units have shelves much deeper than you need for CDs, so I just got some planks and built the whole thing.

It took months.  I'm OK at DIY but I'm a perfectionist and very very slow.

It looked really neat and organised, for a while.  Unfortunately I didn't make much allowance for future purchases, so now I have hundreds more piled up all over the place.

Or a sleeve filing system that could eliminate all that plastic?

But that's just buying more plastic and chucking away perfectly servicable cases. I see little wrong with what you have going on there. You could always try to ikeahack something so that you have two narrower sections instead - perhaps using a monitor riser or shelf insert. Slots can end up using a lot more room than just the cases - it adds up!

As soon as our fish pop their clogs I’m going to get some matching shelves for the right hand of the fireplace, but with smaller holes for CDs.

I have about half of my CDs in one of these, I've had it for donkeys. This is about 75% 80% full at present..

I got it on ebay, the seller I used no longer exists but this seller has a good range: https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/rac--man.

Edit: it is the same seller, they've just renamed since I used them in 2008. 9mm hardwood plywood. Excellent bit of kit.

    This one goes to eleven

You make a good point. Elegance vs untidiness may simply be down to vertical dividers keeping them in line.

I just want to say to @lukedlb how novel and refreshing it is to see someone write "CDs" instead of "CD's" with the pointless and spurious apostrophe. Well done that man!

I teach English as a foreign language. You can imagine how much time is spent correcting the mistakes my students learn at school. It is nice to be recognised for my effort, so thank you.
I blame my mistakes on Autocorrect and my endless battle correcting Autocorrect.
