Abbreviations and acronyms

What's Hot
A thought from left field ...

I've noticed that across tFB knowledge base there are often threads or posts that contain abbreviations and acronyms, particularly in specialist subject areas or areas that I know absolutely nowt about.

Would people find it useful/worthwhile if we were to construct a database (or at least a comprehensive list) of relevant abbreviations, acronyms, tech terms, specialist references and the like?

I know I would because I struggle with quite a lot of stuff.

I don't have a proscriptive view of format or design ... I'm sure there are much more practical bods than me who know what's involved and how best to engineer something ... perhaps the mods could suggest how best to take this forward?

If there already is something available then please point me to it  ... if there is no appetite for such then I'll get me coat!

Thoughts?

As seen in the recent Sri Lankan civil unrest, their police's Special Task Force missed a trick with their helmet stickering.

Sri Lanka is the place where the short-form acronyms are 12 letters long and have to be abbreviated.

Many years ago Strathclyde Police Force (as it was before all the forces were merged into one totally ineffective and overstretched "Police Scotland") decided that it would be a good idea to create a cohesive firearms response team.  Obviously inspired by the American S.W.A.T. (Special Weapons And Tactics),  Brazilian B.O.P.E. (Batalhão de Operações Policiais Especiais), and other worldwide crack teams the buffoons at Skatclyde Police HQ had a brainstorming session to concoct a snappy acronym.  Allegedly the chosen one went right through to the stage of having samples of baseball caps and vests printed with the acronym for Fast. Action. Response. Team. before their idiocy was realised.
