Anyone had experience with either or both the ID4 and Evo4?

I’d appreciate any help or advice about which one to go for.

My main recording device is an iPad Pro.

  • For the money the Evo4 is really good. They both are to be fair.

I’m currently selling my ID14, I’ve used it with an IPad Pro (second gen) and my MacBook Pro (2013) works a treat!

I’ve got the id4 and I’m really happy with it.

I’m so bored I might as well be listening to Pink Floyd

Both great but if you just wanna maximise bang-for-buck at the expense of a few features the Evo is shockingly excellent for the price. I got one for my kid's laptop as a sound card improvement - unlikely to record much if anything with it, it's mostly just for the DAC (gaming/media consumption as an improvement over the built-in sound) - but the simplicity of it is definitely a good thing too.

I’ve just bought an Audient Sono, which I really like the sound of. We’ll see how that works out, but apart from all the guitar gubbins, it’s got 2 Audient mic preamps and it cost me 90 quid on eBay.

I meant to say on your other thread...  I don't use my Sono as a stand-alone practice unit (the Sono preamp and Two Notes cab sims into a speaker). I'm always going into a computer or tablet (I like S-Gear on macOS) - but I do like the sound I get when plugging a guitar into the specialist guitar input with the preamp valve. The mic pres are very good, too.

I thought it might kill a few birds with one stone. It seems to be a very good interface, even without all the guitar and valve stuff. I’m surprised at how cheap and seemingly unpopular they are - they started out at about 400 quid and now Andertons are knocking them out for £160 brand new. Why is that do you think?

They're not where Audient is focused any more, I'd guess. Perhaps they've stopped making them - even though they're still on their website as being a product. I don't think the guitar-focused aspect ever gained as much traction with people as they'd hoped. The world is full of good products and good ideas that are too early to market, too late or just doesn't interest enough people at the time.
