Is it wrong to want a guitar purely for its looks?!

What's Hot
I've got 3 great electric guitars that do everything I want, haven't bought a guitar for years now and generally try to make a point of getting more from less.

But I really, really want an old strat in a pale shade of blue with an aged white pick guard. I'm thinking either daphne blue, sky blue, sonic blue or sea foam green. Yes, I've even looked up the colours :(

What is a chap to do!? I mean, I could use a strat, for sure.  But in no way do I NEED one!

    You've heard it before.

    You'll hear it again.

Q:  How many guitars do you need?
    A:  Just one more ....

    HTH  ;)

Of course not - surely the looks of an instrument is the first box we need ticking.

Doesn't matter how nice it plays or how great it sounds - if it doesn't look good, I'm not picking it up.

Those two points mean you should buy one!   After a week or two of searching for the perfect looking strat, then trying it to check it plays as nice as it looks :)

No more than buying anything else for its looks.

  • I've got a Sonic Blue Strat with an aged plate. It looks fantastic.... You're right - you need one!

  • IMO no, but if that's the only box it ticks then it's a pretty shallow reason. If it looks pretty but sounds shite and plays horribly then it's no better than a beautiful whore who gives you a dose.

Looks aren't everything but they are very important especially at the beginning .

I think you should try one :-\"

I could not hit the Wisdom button more times, otherwise I'd have been ragging on that all night.

  • I would not have ended up with 17 guitars at one time if it was wrong?!?!  And I still wanted more.

Looks are everything to me. I don't want a guitar with a "nice personality", I want one that makes me want to lick it all over.

    Ahem.

  • Owner of 2 paisley Teles here...

I wouldn't play an ugly guitar, but I'm also only interested in guitars and play well and sound good.

  • Looking at it the other way I don't think I'd get on with a guitar I didn't like the look of, even if it sounded fantastic and played like a dairy product.
