To Bigsby, or not to Bigsby... That is the question..

What's Hot
Oh and if so, which one?

The Thinline to give it some weight and balance or the bound because it is already a bastard?

Both. The correct answer is always to bigsby. :)

Mildly off topic, where did you source the mini-humbucker tele bridge? I’m having no luck with Google searches.

Think you might be right my friend. I have not drilled the pot holes for the thinline yet as I am not sure if I want it as a cabronita style or an SS '69 style yet.

I got it off ebay a couple of years ago. Sold it on here last year and luckily bought it back again

Bound. Looks more messy and mean. Then give it a relic olive drab finish :)

Without looking at the details, the answer is always yes

Funnily enough that was the colour I had in mind but I am swaying towards a dirty dakota red now..

    The Thinline.

A Bigsby on a Thinline improves the balance and tone, on a solidbody it’s the other way round. Plus it looks much better on the Thinline, it’s overcrowded and messy on the other one.

It would be even better on the Thinline if you fit the proper rocking bridge. Without the ferrules in the back it will look like it was meant to be like that all along. It won’t quite cover the screw holes but it should be possible to fill them fairly well.

  • I'm with ICBM on this one.  On the bound, it's right in the way of the tone knob.  On the Thinline, you can put the controls nearer the edge of the guitar so you can get at them.

Yeah I'd go Thinline I think for the full Gretsch vibe. La Cab controls for me too, but I highly recommend toggle+vol+tone - being able to knock the tone back a fraction is totally worth it

Like a jag bridge? The ones you see on the Teles with the bridge holes cut out of the plate?

Yes, exactly. You can mount them without the plate though, you just need the two 'thimbles' in the body.

Haha yeah it's reet good :)

I'm tempted by a black guard lately. I've just found a new tech locally who I may test out with something low-risk like that :)
