WTB PJE Macon Special or Carved Top

What's Hot
My quest for the next guitar continues… I‘ve always regretted letting my Macon go a couple of years back, so am in the market for another. Any Macon’s will be considered except double cuts. Do please let me know if you have something available. I did consider having one built to spec, but I’m too much of an impatient bastard for that.

Yea I’ve been looking at that one. It’s very similar to the one I sold a while back. Would be interesting to see what else is around though. Thanks for the heads up Zoony

  • Having owned a PJE Macon, I think you would be very happy with a @FelineGuitars Lion.

Feline’s look exceptionally well made, but aren’t really my cup of tea. Thanks though :)

I have a lovely PJE 96 with carved top, always wondered what a Macon would be like.....

  • Well, this was a rather short lived WTB thread, as I just picked up the Macon Special with a redwood top from Musicstreet. @Zoonyboy the carved Macon I had before was the nicest looking and feeling guitar I’ve ever owned, but didn’t get played as much as my Les Paul ‘68 reissue Silverburst. I think the Macon Special offers something totally different, but I’ve yet to actually play one…

  • I've got a special and a carve top and for me the special wins out, just. I think its the pickup combo and the flatter top

    NGD thread incoming please!
I had a special with a redwood top- flawlessly built but for some reason I’ve not got on with redwood as a tone wood.

I saw that one though and it’s some top. Hope it works for you.

Thanks! I hope so too. I’ve quite a few maple topped guitars and was drawn in like a moth by the redwood, so thought I’d give it a go. PJE always seems to select really nice timber

I personally consider PJE stuff very hard to beat. Each to their own though.

The PJE Macon is a very lovely guitar (and so is our Lion Supreme model), so you are spoilt for choice and it all comes down to personal choice. Pat is a great guy and a legend in the UK industry.
I have a nice Macon here at the moment, so I thought I'd take some photos in the name of posh UK built guitar porn.
The Lion is my own one from our 20th Anniversary run, so 10 years old now.

Absolutely. It would be a Rizla paper between the two, having owned both. No right or wrong - just amazing, British-built guitars.

Sorry but you can't take it back.  I am now canvassing for support on a last man standing British guitar-maker face off.  A limit of only one luthier-related tool as a weapon.  My money is on Jon because he looks more metal than the others.  Although Crimson tattoo-head fella might be handy.

@FelineGuitars ;;Looking at the shadows on the pickup covers of that Eggle, I'm guessing that the covers and humbucker coil screws have been lifted from a set of Mojo humbuckers and transplanted to a set of Cream T's?  =)
