Strat baseplate …Does it have to be grounded??

Evening all … thinking of sticking a baseplate on my Strat bridge pickup …. I know you need a strip of masking tape on the plate to stop direct contact with the pole pieces but does the plate  need to be grounded…. ?? The plate I have came with a short pre soldered length of wire but I’m not too keen on soldering it to the pickup . Thanks in advance

    No, not necessary. It might marginally reduce noise, but it’s more effective to shield the whole cavity if that’s an issue.
