Didn’t know much about him but came across a genuinely lovely guy.

My dad (who's idea of modern music would have been Benjamin Britten) phoned up about 15 years ago and in passing asked if I'd ever heard of a band called A.C.D.C. I said 'of course, they have sold a like a bazillion albums, they are one of the biggest groups on the planet'.

'Oh' he said, 'I met the singer last weekend fell walking in the Lake District. He seemed like a very nice chap, but I'd never heard of A.C.D.C so I just smiled politely when he mentioned he was in a band ' :-)

He reads the audiobook of at least one of his books and is so engaging that it's hard to switch off.

He needs to be on telly a lot more.
