Walpurgis

How is that word pronounced?
I assume it starts with Wall
But is it followed by pur like a cat? Or poor?
And is the G as in Greg or gist?

I've never had cause to say it out loud, but in my head I pronounce it something like "Wol-pur-gis".  Definitely with a hard G.

But the "W" should really be a "V" sound, it's a German word.  So it's more like "Val-pour-gis".

For the full effect, try saying it in a proper Yam Yam accent.

    Warl-pœrrrr-jeese
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

@Philly_Q has it right, it’s German.  Pronounced Val-poor-giss.

Thanks guys. That makes complete sense. I thought it might have been Latin, as most demonic words are. I should have remembered that the rest are inevitably German.

Looks like I might have to mispronounce it then, as @Funkfingers suggests. FWIW I've just started work on a Beatles/Sabbath mashup for the current cover challenge titled "I am the walpurgis". At least I now know that the joke works much better on paper than phonetically...

Edit - maybe it could just be "I am the war pig"
