Best guitar neck rest?

I got a cheapy from Amazon. It does the job

The tall side js a bit wobbly but short end is fine. You'd probably want a better one for acoustic but it is fine with my electrics

If you have scrap timber and some protective material to hand (felt or cork), and you possess the necessary woodworking tools and skills then yes, I would agree with you.

Or, I can spend a few quid on one (or ask for one for my impending birthday)

I use a fabric sack about 7 inches x 4 inches containing small glass beads or something similar as a neck cradle.  It was left on top of a wall in the warehouse at my old workplace by telecom technicians after they had been installing some network cables.  I think they use these bags to hold down wires at various places so they can work alone when doing lengthy cable runs.  It's quite heavy, but the neck can be bedded down into the beads and it provides enough solid support even when hammering in frets.  The sack itself is double-lined and quite thick but soft material, so there's no risk of the hard beads inside making small dents in the neck.  I tend not to buy bespoke things when I already have something that can be improvised for use or that I am perfectly capable to make very easily and cheaply myself.

+1 for this.  Brother in law 'got' it for me for xmas a few years ago.  After I ordered, paid, wrapped and feigned joy and surprise on the day

A guzunder was traditionally for taking the piss, best kept separated from guitars stored under the bed.

I use a short length as a neck rest. The neck’s only on it for a matter of minutes, so I can’t imagine that it would affect a nitro finish. If I was worried then I’d put a cloth around it.

I use a gun barrel rest I bought on eBay.

I think it's supposed to be filled with lead shot but I have PA speaker ballast in mine.

I use a 2kg bag of table salt from tesco, wrapped in gaffa tape and covered with felt, 79p and moulds to the shape of any neck.

I have something very similar, but homemade.

An old towel, sewn into a bag roughly 9” square, filled with something like this;

Total cost, about £5, completely safe for any finish, and instantly moulds itself to any shape you need.

Saw a video on YouTube of one made from the leg off an old pair of jeans, stitch one end up, fill with rice and stitch the other end

I have one of the Stewmac beanbag type things. Works very well. No reason a homemade one couldn't do the job similarly well
