Ive been looking at programmable looper/switchers, Im surprised there are not many people using them to control FX selection, any reason why not to?

I can see advantages.....

  • Board space. I'd rather have room for more pedals that do something, and put up with a bit of tap dancing.

What @not_the_dj said. I had one to switch 3 or 4 off at once, but took up as much room as 3 or 4 pedals.

I've thought about it, but it means either having far fewer pedals (which then renders it pointless) or an absolutely massive board and at that point you start to think perhaps you would be better off with something like a G-System.or other high end Multi FX system. You also have to have loads more patch cables.

Even once you've got one you are still limited to the settings on each pedal unless you get into pedals with MIDI etc and when I see boards with a Mobius, Timeline and a Big Sky + a switcher I start to think "Why didn't you buy an AxeFX?"

I'd like a midi switcher that puts different pedals in different orders but to be honest I also need the channel as my foot controller only manages 5 channels well more but it'd mean dropping ccs from one of the others :(
A sig-nat-eur? What am I meant to use this for ffs?! Is this thing recording?

Because pedals are more fun and colourful than a AxeFX :p

For me losing my AX3000G which switches an M5 plus a channel switcher and 3 other pedals and moving over to just the M5 plus 6 pedals would do it for me. I'd create a lot of space in our studio if I did that! It's really only delay times and harmoniser keys that need to alter for me. I have a GT-100, but it's all to easy with that, I like the challenge of not quite having everything at my err feet so to speak! It makes for an more interesting experience.

  • I use a Disaster Area switcher to control my Strymons via midi. Saves me tap dancing. He does other switchers too that combine midi and loops etc. Check 'em out

I've got my eye on one of these, maybe a bit overkill but if you have midi devices then I think it's worth the investment......
