Pickups and Pot Values

What's Hot
Hi there,

I would really appreciate some input on pups and pot value pairings, as I have some partcasters that I am building and would like to try some unconventional pickup pairings.

I am aware of the usual suspects:

- Single coil + 250k pots
- Humbucker + 500k pots
- P90 + 500k pots

But would love to understand a bit more of how to pair the below type of pickups to a specific pot value to get the best out of the setup.

- Gold Foil (I assume that 250k as they are single coils mainly??)

- Filtertrons

- Dynasonics

- Jazzmaster pups (I always thought that 1Meg pots were the norm, but have seen some people using 500k)

- WRHB (I have seen setups that used 500k or 1Meg pots)

Thanks in advance!  =)

There are no absolutely hard and fast rules. Try whichever values you have handy. If you like how a combination of pickups and pots sounds, stick with it.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

Gretsch appear to use 500k with filtertrons, but I've also heard them sound quite nice with 1Meg. I'm putting a set of humbucker-sized 'trons from the Creamery in my Revstar this week and leaving the stock 500K pots to start with. If I find I'm missing some presence, I'll get 1Megs!

I used a no-load tone pot (500k both volume and tone) with my WRHBs to kind of hedge my bets. I never bothered trying 1meg.
