Possibly a home made tremolo device: just lightly wiggle the head.

The iron-clad look reminds me of some heat exchanger shell repairs at an oil refinery I must not name.
You say, atom bomb. I say, tin of corned beef.

  • Well at least they used a nice padded neck rest - wouldn't want to scratch it.
    Probably Neil Young's tech :)

Apart from the obvious messy look and feel of that plate, surely that almost took more effort than doing it properly with glue.

Not if they've done the same on the front.

Worse, it looks like some of the structural repairs on the vintage Junkers Ju52 aircraft which crashed in the Alps a few years back, which were discovered by the accident investigators. Shockingly, the crash was not even caused by that but by gross pilot error - the entire operation was a total cowboy outfit with minimal regard for safety. My parents had been thinking of taking a trip with them, but hadn’t got around to it… 17 passengers and 3 crew were not so lucky.
