New TV needed....

Our Sony LCD 32" TV [still working perfectly] does not have Saorview so the option is to buy a Saorview box [€80-€150 depending on spec] or a new TV which has Saorview built in [budget up to €400].  The Irish stations are now all digital and Sky provide those at the moment.  I want to ditch Sky as it costs €45 per month, and am considering a Freesat box for the 'free to air' channels that we mainly watch.  And we need Saorview to view the Irish channels.

New TVs seem to have a much smaller border than the older Sony so a 40" screen would be about the same width as our 32".  I see references to Smart TVs, what are they?

Suggestions are welcome.  Thanks.

  • I think by rights if you buy a 40" TV and the diagonal measurement of the screen is only 3 inches with the rest plastic casing, it is an infringement of trading standards.
