Boygenius - The Record - Bridgers/Baker/Dacus

I know those who grew up on hairy bare chested men and overly-long guitar solos will probably dismiss this as sad indie girl music but man it's great. For those not in the know, boygenius is the supergroup comprised of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, all of whom are phenomenal in their own right.

4 songs released so far and a full album coming on the 31st. I can't wait.

Yeah, the new track is utterly phenomenal but everything they're put out so far is fantastic. The 2018 EP is outstanding though not what you'd describe as "happy making"

Yep. Based on their individual catalogues, the EP and the first 4 songs I have every reason to believe this will be my album of the year. I only usually buy vinyl of something once I establish I love it but I've already preordered a copy. And a t-shirt...

Yeah same. I don’t know where it sits compared with everything else I like yet but it’s a good record. 

First instinct is that I like the (I assume largely-Baker-penned rockers)

I think I need to listen to it a few times.

When I first listened to Punisher I thought "Yeah it's alright" by the third listen it was in my top 5 of the year.

Yeah, there are bits I adore - Not Strong Enough and Letter to an Old Poet are exceptional - but the album overall isn't greater than the sum of its parts, which is shame. Good but not exceptional
